Freezer Peach Pie Filling
Make the most of peach season by preparing and freezing peach pie filling to use later. Freezing the filling in a pie plate makes it easy to add to a pie crust when you’re ready to bake! Extend peach season a few more months with the simple technique!
If you’re like my family, you look forward to peach season all year long! Every August, we gather as many ripe peaches as we can and make anything peach we can think of! Peach jam, cobbler, peach crisp, smoothies, bowls and bowls peaches and cream, the list is endless and we never want it to end! But eventually those peaches start to get quite ripe and there’s no more room in our bellies to consume anymore peach creations! That’s when we turn to our favorite kitchen appliance – the freezer.
Instead of throwing away the bountiful amount of peaches we still have at the end of peach season, we like to make peach pie filling and freeze it to enjoy later (perhaps as a special treat to enjoy on a crisp Fall day!).
Use this pie filling to make my Peach Crumble Pie
This pie filling is what I use in my Peach Crumble Pie. It’s so delicious and will be even easier to make when you prepare and freeze the filling ahead of time!
How to freeze peach pie filling
Instead of just freezing a bunch of peaches, it’s so much more helpful to prepare the filling ahead of time and freeze it in a foil lined pie plate! This is really such an easy way to create pie fillings that you can easily take from the freezer and place directly into your prepared pie dough!
- Peel, pit and slice ripe peaches.
- Make my Fresh Peach Pie Filling – it takes only 5 minutes! Allow the filling to cool completely.
- Line a pie plate with foil.
- Add the pie filling.
- Cover it with another piece of foil.
- Place it in the freezer for 48 hours, or until frozen solid.
- Remove it from the pie plate and peel off the foil.
- Store the pie shaped peach pie filling in a freezer zip top bag for up to 6 months in the freezer.
Baking the peach pie with frozen filling
I love this technique because this filling can go straight from the freezer to the pie crust and in the oven without having to defrost it. There are a couple of things you’ll want to keep in mind:
- When baking my Peach Crumble Pie with a frozen filling, reduce the oven temperature to 350°F and extend the bake time to 50-60 minutes.
- The reduced oven temperature will keep the crust from browning too much while allowing the filling to completely bake and warm all the way through.
Give this a try with your end-of-the-season peaches or you can also use this technique for other fruit pie fillings too! It’s such a great way to enjoy fruit pies throughout the entire year!
Can I freeze peach pie filling that is not baked. Jello based.
That’s a great question…I’d lean towards freezing cooked peaches. This recipe bake time and temperature are based on a cooked filling. A filling that’s not precooked will require different bake times.
