Ingredients

Scale

Filling:

  • 8 large apples, peeled and sliced (using a tart apple like Granny Smith, Jonagold or Honeycrisp work best)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Topping:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F.
  2. Grease a 9×13 baking dish with non stick spray and set aside.
  3. Place sliced apples in a large bowl. Sprinkle with lemon juice and toss.
  4. In a separate bowl, prepare the ingredients for the apples by combining the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Sprinkle over apples and toss until all combined. Spread apples evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, prepare the topping by combining the sugar, flour and oats. Cut in the butter and finish combining by hand, making sure all of the ingredients are incorporated. Drop topping evenly over the apples.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, remove foil and continue to bake an additional 20-30 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.

Notes

  1. Prepare up to 24 hours ahead of time and keep in the refrigerator until ready to bake. Allow it to come to room temperature before baking and bake as directed in the recipe.
  2. Freeze baked Apple Crisps and reheat later. When reheating a frozen Apple Crisp, cover with foil and heat in a 350° F oven for 30-45 minutes – until it’s warmed through. If you allow it to thaw before reheating, cover with foil and reheat for 20-30 minutes – until it’s warmed through.
